Wake Up With: Emme Parsons

Wake Up With is a series devoted to the morning practices of our creative peers.

Today, we bring you greater insight into the morning rituals and routines of Emme Parsons, Founder and namesake of her eponymous footwear line.

Describe your sleeping space.

My bedroom is minimally furnished and mostly white which I find calming and relaxing.

What time do you wake up?

I usually wake up around 6:30AM but try to sleep in a bit later on the weekends.

The first thing you do upon waking?

I listened to a Business of Fashion podcast a few years ago with Jasmine Hemsley and she extolled the virtues of a tongue scraper and have noticed it really helps me wake up so I scrape my tongue and brush my teeth before anything else every morning.

What do you need to get a good night's sleep?

Using a sleep mask to block out light is really helpful for me to get a better night’s sleep and I always make sure that my phone is in another room charging before I go to bed.

Your AM Skincare / Self Care Routine?

My skin has been really dehydrated during pregnancy so I’ve been using DHC cleansing oil and Vinter’s Daughter Essence which has really helped and layering an oil or moisturizer on top of that. I’m lucky to have quite a few friends with skincare brands and love using products by LESSE, Nature of Things and Ona Organics.

If I have the time I’ll do yoga or some form of exercise in the morning to clear my head and get out of the house.

Morning beverages you can’t go without?

Lately, I’ve been making an iced espresso with a little bit of oat milk but I also love matcha.

A typical breakfast might look like?

Greek yogurt and fruit.

On an average day you’ll…

Order carry in for dinner.

On a more productive day you’ll…

Make dinner at home.

When you’re exhausted, you’ll…

Take a 30-minute nap.

You start work around what time?

Working virtually and balancing motherhood means working all the time but at odd hours. Sometimes it feels like the work day never ends and I’m trying to get better at working very minimally on the weekends to avoid burnout.

What’s on your morning to-do list on an average day?

Packing school lunch and answering emails. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to squeeze a shower in, too.

If your ideal morning had a soundtrack? (A song, mix, or album)
